Sara leads the team in the Nelson/Marlborough region. Sara graduated from the University of Otago with Bachelors degrees in Physiotherapy in 1996 and Science in 1997, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation in 2004. Sara has extensive rehabilitation experience both here in NZ and overseas while working for the Red Cross in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea and Pakistan.
Jade joined the team in 2017 after moving to Nelson from the Gold Coast. She holds a Master of Physiotherapy degree from Griffith University, has degrees in Exercise Science and Psychology and has also completed further study in the McKenzie Method. Her passion is using holistic methods to help people return to living their best life following injury and surgery. Jade works at the Aquatic Centre clinic, and takes the Clinical Pilates and Senior Fit classes at our Richmond clinic. Jade enjoys going to the gym, exploring new places and playing with her ginger cat in her free time.
Sharon joined our team in 2011, after graduating from AUT. She combines enthusiasm and energy with her quest for knowledge and has completed both the McKenzie and Mulligan Credentialing courses and has also completed further postgraduate study in Vocational Rehabilitation. Sharon works in our Richmond and ASB clinics. She spends her spare time raising calves, working with her husband in their farming ventures.
Karen qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2007 from Southampton University in the UK and then spent 5 years working in the UK before moving to NZ in 2012. She joined the Southern Rehab team in sunny Nelson in 2017. Karen has a passion for helping people with neurological conditions and is the clinical lead for the Training for Independence and Concussion teams. Karen loves walking and camping and keeps fit with running and yoga.
Colette joined our team in 2016 and is an invaluable part of our team working across Vocational Rehab, Training for Independence, Concussion Services and Social Rehabilitation Needs Assessment. Colette has travelled extensively and lived in the UK for many years. She enjoys natural health care, exploring the outdoors and spending time in her vegetable garden.
Anika graduated as an Occupational Therapist from Otago Polytechnic in 2018 and joined our team in 2019. She grew up in the Nelson region and always wanted to return home to begin her career as an Occupational Therapist. Anika loves a variety of sports and has played both, competitively and socially.
Service Lead for Physiotherapy
Helen joined the practice in 1997, became a business partner in 2007, and in August 2014 became sole Director. Helen managed Southern Rehab in Nelson until 2018 and is now the Service Lead for Physiotherapy across the South Island for Southern Rehab. Helen loves being part of a dynamic team of medical professionals. Helen completed a Masters degree through Otago University and has attained the McKenzie Institute International Diploma. Encouraging a philosophy of ‘exercise for life’, Helen walks, cycles, and mountain bikes in the stunning Nelson environs.
Steve has more than 20 years' experience working in vocational rehabilitation as well as in the head injury, stroke rehabilitation, special education, ergonomics and mental health areas. Steve has a special interest in health and wellness and uses a holistic approach to help his clients get back to living their best life. He is also developing software to assist computer-based workers to self-manage repetitive strain issues, stress and anxiety. Steve is married to an Irish woman and they have 3 very active teenage boys, who all drive the ball 30 metres past him on the golf course!
Nicole Van Vledder
Nicole completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree in South Africa in 1994 and her Clinical Master’s degree in 2014. She joined the Southern Rehab team in 2018 and has a strong client-focus, working alongside them to get meaningful outcomes that enable them to live their best life. Nicole enjoys tramping and trail running, and recently has started mountain biking, encouraged by all the fun that her clients and colleagues are having!
Stephanie joined the Southern Rehab team in 2019. From rural North Island, Stephanie studied at the University of Otago and then went on to work with clients with injuries or acquired neurological conditions,and their families/whānau, Stephanie had five years of clinical experience working in neurorehabilitation settings in DHB and specialist rehabilitation services, and has also spent several years living and volunteering overseas. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring our beautiful mountain trails and coastline, on foot or by bicycle.
Paula graduated from Otago Polytechnic with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree and joined Southern Rehab in June 2019. Paula works in the Concussion, Training for Independence, and Vocational Rehabilitation teams. She has a passion in working with her clients to enable them to achieve their goals.
Lisa is our fully qualified massage specialist, working in association with our Nelson clinic supporting Active Well-being. Lisa works closely with our physiotherapists, supplying therapeutic massage to complement post injury rehabilitation and sports conditioning.
Sue founded our original company, Richmond Physiotherapy, in 1992. She has completed postgraduate study in Manual Therapy and been a Credentialed McKenzie Therapist since 1999. Sue has two adult daughters, and loves to tramp, walk and cycle. She enjoys international travel to attend conferences and to keep up-to-date professionally while enjoying varied cultural experiences.
Martin has been a Southern Rehab team member since 2008. He is a credentialed McKenzie therapist with postgraduate qualifications in vocational rehabilitation. Martin has a wide range of skills and experience and a passion for functional rehabilitation, helping people rebuild themselves to get back to their best life following injury or surgery. Martin has a young family and loves being active out and about in the beautiful Nelson/Tasman region!
Pauline is the office administrator and keeps the Nelson team organised. She enjoys playing netball and is always busy working on her lifestyle block.
Soo is your first contact by phone or in person at our main clinic. She comes from a banking background in Guernsey but is now proudly a Kiwi citizen. Soo enjoys swimming for fitness.
Sarah has a degree in Social Work and worked as a social worker in hospital and child protection roles and has also worked as an outdoor photographer, a Sales Rep, and an ACC Case Manager. At Southern Rehab Sarah is now very much enjoying her role as our Vocational Consultant. Sarah keeps fit mountain biking, going to the gym, running and exercising her rather large dog in the wonderful Nelson region.
