SRI provides many assessments, rehabilitation interventions and programmes. Often more than one clinician or division is involved in providing these services and they often overlap to maximise effectiveness of individualised rehabilitation pathways. Although each of our services are listed below separately, they are often used in conjunction or overlap.
Concussion Service / Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI)
Education and assessments are provided by Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Neuropsychologist and Rehabilitation Medical Specialist. Education and follow-up training sessions for people who have had a concussion also known as a mild traumatic brain injury. Neuropsychoglical assessment and medical review as required.
SRI has a full suite of clinicians, services, facilities and eduction materials available for those with post-concussion syndrome or mild to moderate head injury.

Initial Occupational Assessment (IOA)
Assessment with a Vocational Consultant to establish work types that a client is able to pursue after an injury where they are unable to return to their pre-injury work. The assessment takes into account the individual's skills, educationa and experience - a report is supplied to the Case Manager within five working days of the assessment.

Work Preparation Programme (WPP)
Programme designed to prepare clients for their return to work. This is a six-week programme in which a client attends every morning and receives training in job search skills, computer skills, strengthening programme and psychological services if appropriate.

Vocational Independence Occupational Assessment (VIOA)
Assessment carried out by a Vocational Consultant to review the vocational services provided to a client and consider the suitability of types of work previously identified for the client in the IOA. People are eligable for a VIOA when they are no longer able to work in their pre-injury role and have been deemed by ACC to have received all neccessary rehabilitation services. Following the VIOA is a Vocational Independent Medical Assessment (VIMA) and this may also be performed at SRI.

Stay at Work (SAW)
Programme for supervision of a gradual return to pre-injury duties and hours by a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Occupational Health Nurse. Includes workplace assessment and review of increase in work hours during supported return to pre-injury role.

The Work Ready Programme includes a Work Trial of up to 12 weeks in duration with supported increase in hours by a Vocational Consultant.

Neuropsychological Testing (Neuropsych)
This is an assessment for those who have had a head injury to identify any ongoing effects of the injury on brain function. It consists of a series of tasks carried out wit a Clinical Psychologist. The results from the assessment are discussed with the client and a report is developed to describe the effect of the injury and make recommendations for rehabilitation.

Psychological Services (Psych)
Psychological Services may be provided independently of any other programmy. Clients may receive psych services after a recommendation from a CPA or Clients may be referred directly by their Case Manager. After an injury there are often challenges to adapting to ongoing symptoms and changes in lifestyle. Sometimes there are emotional problems relating to the experience of the accident. Clinical Psychologists help to identify any difficulties in adjusting to the injury and help people address these.
Problems such as anxiety, depression, social phobia, catastrophic thoughts and interpersonal difficulties are addressed. Often occupational issues are a potential barrier to recovery and these are addressed. SRI is one of the larger providers of psychological services in Canterbury.

Pain Management Psychological Services (PMP)
Psychological servcies specific to the managment of Persisitent Pain and requested oftem from CPAs bult also from surgeons and Case Managers. The service is provided by Clinical Psychologists with an expertise in the management of persistent pain and is often complimented by other pain services provision at SRI including Functional Reactivation programme, Medical follow-up and services to return patients ro pre-injury or new employment.

Assessment and treatment for spinal cord injury patients who have been discharged from Burwood Spinal Unit and following subsequent assessments or further surgery (tendon transplants/ internal fixation removal/ shunt) would benefit from further rehabilitation.

Comprehensive Pain Assessment (CPA)
Medical, Psychosocial, Functional/ Biomechanical assessments and medical follow-up. CPAs are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 9 am and 12pm.

6-12 week strengthening programme based in the Activity Centre with a Physiotherapist, regular attendance required, no psychological or medical input, initial assessment, progress and completion assessments throughout the programme.
