SRI provides many assessments, rehabilitation interventions and programmes. Often more than one clinician or division is involved in providing these services and they often overlap to maximise the effectiveness of individualised rehabilitation pathways.

Concussion Service / Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI)

SRI has a full suite of clinicians, services, facilities and eduction materials available for those with post-concussion syndrome or mild to moderate head injury. The concussion service is to help people to manage the effects of their concussion and to accurately assess the nature and extent of their injury.

Initial Occupational Assessment (IOA)

The IOA is an ssessment with a Vocational Consultant to establish work types that a client is able to pursue after an injury when they are unable to return to their pre-injury work. The assessment takes into account the individual's skills, education and experience.

Work Preparation Programme (WPP)

The WPP is designed to prepare clients for their return to work. It is a six-week programme in which a client attends every morning and receives training in job search skills, computer skills. The client follows a strengthening programme and psychological services are provided if appropriate.

Vocational Independence Occupational Assessment (VIOA)

Assessment carried out by a Vocational Consultant to review the vocational services provided to a client and consider the suitability of types of work previously identified for the client in the IOA.

Stay at Work (SAW)

The Stay at Work programme is for the supervision of a Client's gradual return to pre-injury duties and hours. The programme includes workplace assessment and review of increase in work hours during a supported return to the Client's pre-injury role. The programme is carried out by a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Occupational Health Nurse.

Neuropsychological Testing (Neuropsych)

This is an assessment for those who have had a head injury to identify any ongoing effects of the injury on brain function. It consists of a series of tasks carried out with a Clinical Psychologist. The results from the assessment are discussed with the Client and a report is developed to describe the effect of the injury and make recommendations for rehabilitation.

Psychological Services (Psych)

After an injury there are often challenges to adapting to ongoing symptoms and changes in lifestyle. Sometimes there are emotional problems relating to the experience of the accident. Clinical Psychologists help to identify any difficulties in adjusting to the injury and help Clients to address these. Problems such as anxiety, depression, social phobia, catastrophic thoughts and interpersonal difficulties are addressed. Often occupational issues are a potential barrier to recovery and these are addressed. With a Psychology team of five, SRI is one of the larger providers of psychological services in Canterbury.

Pain Management Psychological Services (PMP)

Pain Management Psychological servcies (PMP) is provided to help Clients to manage their Persisitent Pain. PMP is provided by Clinical Psychologists with expertise in the management of persistent pain. PMP often complements other pain services at SRI such as Functional Reactivation Programme, Medical Follow-up to assist the Client's return to their pre-injury or new employment.

Training for Independence Programmes (TI - TBI, Adults Other Injuries)

Training for Independence (TI) programmes involve an Occupational Therapist, Clinical Psychologist and Speech Language Therapist who work with Clients in the community to help them to develop life skills and increase their independence after an injury. SRI specialises in helping people who have had a Traumatic Brain Injury during an accident and spinal cord injury rehabilitation. A TI programme may include input from a dietitian any any other relevant health professionals or community groups to assist with the clients rehabilitation.

Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation (Training for Independence- Adults Other Injury)

Assessment and treatment for spinal cord injury patients who have been discharged from Burwood Spinal Unit would benefit from further rehabilitation following subsequent assessments or further surgery (tendon transplants/ internal fixation removal/ shunt) . Spinal cord rehabilitation can include facilitation of transfers, assisted walking and strengthening following improvement in muscle innervation. Provision is by a specialist physiotherapists experienced in work with patients with spinal cord injury.

FCE's determine the occupational and functional ability of an individual. FCE referrals can be target simple, complex or task specific inforamtion and SRI uses the Workhab programme as its assessment tool.

The PFWI is a 6 to 12 week Gym based strengthening programme. The PFWI is designed as a orthopaedic rehabilitation for patients with no psychosocial component to be addressed. The purpose of the programme is for claimants who have persistent pain following an injury.

Employment Maintenance Programme (EMP)

This is a six week programme to help people to maintain their pre-injury role. The EMP includes vocational return-to-work assistance with a Vocational Consultant and an Activity Centre based strengthening programme with a Physiotherapist. The EMP supports people's return to work and weekly updates are sent to their Case Manager on return to work activities.
